Lorelei Mason - Team Leader NZCare

"The interaction with clients is wonderful; the most rewarding part of the job is the communication and body language that you get from people who can't speak."

Lorelei Mason, Team Leader for NZCare.

Lorelei has worked for NZCare since 1998 as a Support Worker for people with intellectual disability.  Recently Lorelei became a Team Leader for two residential houses, supporting clients and staff.

Team Leaders are a point of contact for staff in the house.  Lorelei takes team meetings and gives feedback to the Clinical Manager, she makes some decisions in the houses and is there to listen to difficulties clients or staff may have.  Lorelei feels that as Team Leader, she compliments the skills of the support staff.  Each person has a specialty area that helps the team create the best possible lifestyle for each client.

As Team Leader Lorelei has been called on to support her Clinical Manager, Nellie Harris "Lorelei has been my relief Clinical Manager and a huge support to me for 8 years. I can take time off knowing that the people we support and the staff are in very safe and capable hands. Lorelei has a very good relationship with the support and the staff and they have a great respect for her. Lorelei is always willing to take on any project I ask of her and recently took part in an internal audit when I was busy opening a new home. I consider Lorelei's strengths to be her ability to relate to people and her calm and gentle demeanour." said Nellie.

When asked what she likes best about working at NZCare, Lorelei replied "My immediate boss is very supportive of her staff which creates a caring atmosphere to work in."
